Maldives

My husband Shehan, and I were planning our next trip in early September for me to start my own travel blog, so I decided to hold a very biased poll on Instagram where my followers had to choose between Maldives and Singapore for my next country of choice to visit. Maldives won that poll by a landslide as you can imagine, and I was able to visit one of my top 5 dream destinations!

Transport from the Airport to the Hotel

The immigration line was quite quick, and our baggage was already on the belt when we got out. As soon as we walked out the airport doors there was a Taj Exotica representative who escorted us to a speed boat, and the ride was roughly 25minutes.

The Amazing Hospitality at the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Maldives:

We were greeted by a lady named Roberta who escorted us in a buggy to our room. She engaged us in conversation, and gave a detailed explanation of all the activities available at the resort during the ride.

On arrival at our Deluxe Lagoon Villa we were introduced to Adam, who was our guest experience manager, and he welcomed us with a bottle of champagne. He was very hospitable, and ran us through everything that was in the room. I suddenly remembered that my suitcase needed to be opened, and in 2 minutes Adam had the hotel technician at our door to break the lock for me

Food & Beverages:

Every morning we headed to the 24 Degrees restaurant where they provide an all-day ala carte menu with dishes from India, the Indian Ocean, Europe, and the Far East too!

The most exciting restaurant was called the Deep End, where they serve Mediterranean and Arabic Cuisine. The restaurant is nestled on a pier, and one of the main attractions is reef sharks can be spotted swimming below through a giant hole in the middle of the restaurant.

We also ordered plenty of room service from their extensive in-room dining menu and the most noteworthy dishes were the Nasi Goreng and the Taj Exotica burger. These two were by far the most delicious meals I had!

Excursions on the Island:

We decided to check the excursions that the hotel had to offer, and there were so many to choose from! There was the Sea plane tour, Submarine Dive, Deep Sea Fishing, Island Explorations, Moonbeam & Starlight Cruise, and many more.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t do any of this as the weather wasn’t that great during our stay. However, the beauty of Taj Exotica is that the entire island is only 770m long which allows you to snorkel along the entire property at leisure. It was so picturesque around our Deluxe Lagoon Villa, even underwater as there was a school of vibrant colored fish at any given time.

It was the most beautiful thing you could imagine waking up and seeing the electric blue ocean at our doorstep. We took a snorkeling lesson for one hour which was pretty awesome as we learnt quite a lot, and I got over my fear of staying under water for too long which in my book was a big win.

The Daily Activities:

The most gorgeous part of the entire property is the infinity pool where you can watch the sunset. It has its very own bar, and a restaurant that is only open for lunch. They also have a fully-fledged gym, yoga pavilion, and a captivating spa which included some of our very own Ayurveda treatments from Sri Lanka.

The only other activity we decided to enroll for during our stay was one where I had to cook our dinner alongside their head chef. You are given 3 choices of cuisine (Thai, Italian, and Maldivian), and once decided the recipe and ingredients are provided for the meal. Starters and desserts are provided for the meal, and it was up to me to prepare the main dish.

Unfortunately the weather didn’t permit us to do this activity which was a bummer because I was looking forward to impressing Shehan with my skills.

Sunday Arrived and it was time for us to head back home.
